I have two older laptops which ran 64 bit Win7, but I had no problem deleting its partition and installing 32bit XP on. I think the main problem would be getting xp drivers for a newer tablet/PC hardware as manufacturers don't support it anymore! Usually on my old Toshiba satellite after installing XP Black the only drivers I needed to install were 'display', 'card reader', 'Internet lan' and 'sound.' Toshiba drivers can be a pain as they come in self extracting wrappers - I use Winzip to extract them and then run them from there. As the A500 is nearly 10 years old now I've found that the drivers are mostly compatible as long as they are 32 bit and not 64.
